ดอกไม้จัดเป็นอวัยวะสืบพันธุ์ของพืชดอก ซึ่งจัดอยู่ใน

Kingdom Plantae (อาณาจักรพืช)

Division Tracheophytes (พืชที่มีท่อลำเลียง)

Angiosperm (พืชดอกที่มีผนังรังไข่ห่อหุ้มเมล็ด)

โดยที่ส่วนประกอบของดอกนั้นแบ่งออกเป็น 4 ชั้น คือ

1. ชั้นกลีบเลี้ยง

2. ชั้นกลีบดอก

3. ชั้นเกสรเพศผู้

4. ชั้นเกสรเพศเมีย
